THE LEAGUE OF REMEMBRANCE
TRUSTEES' REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2014
Fundraising
This year's fundraising lunch was held at the Reform dub on Thursday 26th June 2014. The guest speaker was Jeremy Paxman,
celebrated broadcaster and author of "Great Britain's Great War". After signing copies of his book he gave a spirited and thought
provoking account of his reasons for writing the book and his view on how the First World War had led to changes in society that
we take for granted today. The books were donated by Mrs Anthea Stock and we record our gratitude for her generous donation.
The lunch was once again sponsored by the William Brake Charitable Trust. Unfortunately Mrs Valerie Brake and her daughters Mrs
Debbie Isaac and Mrs Penny Lang were unable to be present but we record our gratitude to them for this continued support of the
work of the League in memory of Mr William Brake, Past President
The occasion yielded a surplus of £12,790 which induded the sponsorship and other donations made after the lunch.
The annual requests to regular donors yielded £9,000 and we thank them for their continued help.
Together with the Lottery grant and the grant from the Eranda Foundation to initiate the expansion into Buckinghamshire, this has
been a successful year of fundraising. However we are to maintain and increase out London based activities and also establish a
firm financial basis for the Buckinghamshire expansion, fundraising must remain our top priority for the next years.
Finance
The Council is pleased to present the accounts for the League of Remembrance for the year ending 31
st
August 2014, details of
which are to be found in the Annual Report I would like to record our thanks and appreciation to the Auditors, Spofforths LLP, for
their invaluable help and advice and to Mr Richard Coulson, CCLA, for their efficient management of the League's investments.
The League is extremely grateful for the generous support received from all our donors and benefactors without whom the work of
the League could not continue.
To those whose donation is made from taxed income, Gift Aided donations are appreciated as this allows the League to reclaim the
tax paid and thus increase the value of the contribution. Further details can be obtained from our website
www.leagueofremembrance.org.uk or from the Secretary.
